Friday Faves!

Happy Friday, everyone!! It’s a stormy rainy day in Boston, what better way to hop into the weekend with my fave post! πŸ™‚

Here is what I’ve been feeling this week:

  1. New glasses

Have you guys heard of Zenni’s Optical? My sister has shopped there for years, and has about 47 pairs of super cool prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses from them. I hadn’t gone to the eye doctor in an embarrassingly long amount of time, so it was high time for Ms Booyah to get her eyes checked this week. So I went to a very nice eye place in a very nice New England town, and I found a pair of eyeglasses that I absolutely loved. What I didn’t love was the fact that they would cost me $388.87. For one pair of glasses. I’m only nearsighted, so I only wear glasses for driving and reading things that are far away. I was absolutely floored. My extremely sensible sister gave me a wake-up call: hello, that is an outrageous price to pay for eye wear when you can get a pair from Zenni’s for less than $50.

At first, I wasn’t that thrilled about it, but then I started looking online and found the SUPER cute cat eye glasses pictured above. They cost $17.90. Seriously – with free lenses, and a protective coating over the lenses – they were less than $20. ARE YOU EVEN SERIOUS RIGHT NOW! I can now go back and buy 19 more pairs of glasses, for the $400 I would have spent at the fancy place. Also, you can upload a selfie so that you can “try on” the glasses online before you buy. Booyah Tip (from L’s sister, J): Measure your current pair of glasses and compare to the measurements given online so you know how they will fit on your face. πŸ˜‰

2. Athleta Energy Chaturanga Capri

While I was waiting for my brow appointment on Newbury Street (all the important things in life, obv), I wandered into Athleta to check out their new fall stuff and absolutely fell in LOVE with these really cute capri bottoms. The bright blue color is amazing, and I’m obsessed (they look way better on Athleta’s site – I couldn’t find a picture that would do them justice, so check them out over there). I love the striped pair that I have – the material is thick, totally opaque and wicks sweat like a champ. I love that this pair of crops doesn’t have any pockets so you don’t have anything poking you when you’re laying on your back doing ab exercises (sit-ups are hard enough as is without a zipper digging into your back).Β  Love, love, love these! ❀

You can find them here.

3. Capt. Kristen Griest and 1st Lt. Shaye Haver

For more than 120 days, these two women have withstood obstacles (insurmountable obstacles, to any regular person), at the notoriously difficult Army Ranger School. They are the first two women in history that have graduated from Army Ranger training, receiving the coveted black and yellow Ranger Tab on their uniform. I have goosebumps on my arms as I type this – it is so incredible, and swells my heart with such pride, when I think of what these incredibly accomplished, astoundingly athletic and patriotic women have achieved. Just think: we, as women, can do anything. This is monumental.

Watch the video here.

4. Jennifer Aniston’s wedding band

OK so this might be a little shallow after the accomplishments of America’s first female Army Rangers, but LOOK HOW PRETTY! Pure gorgeousness. I also love her simple mani.

5. CEP Compression Socks

I grabbed these for a steal! As my training runs get longer over the summer in preparation for my plethora of fall half marathons, I finally invested in a pair of compression socks to help accelerate my recovery. Wearing compression socks after a long run helps your muscles to recover faster and more efficiently. I will be wearing the shiz out of these (and, I grabbed two pairs on clearance for a steal at City Sports – definitely watch out for deals on these, as they are normally around $60 for a pair).

Check them out here.

I hope that you guys have a wonderful weekend! I’m not up to much – hopefully the weather cooperates and I’m able to hit the beach again! Other than that, I’m looking forward to a relaxing, mellow weekend. What are you guys up to this weekend?? Tell me all about it in the comments! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

With warmth,

Friday Faaaaaves!

Happy Friday, everyone! Last night I hung out with the ever fabulous C, a friend I met through my sis and bro-in-law who just moved to the area (and by area, I mean literally two streets away from me, we could string together two cans and play telephone, so basically the universe is telling us we are meant to have a great summer hanging out together – woot!). Clearly, I had take C on a micro tour of some of my fave spots, so right out of the gate I brought her to Christopher’s in Cambridge and got burgers (vegan for me and Southwest for her – NOMS):

My vegan veggie burger at Christopher’s Cambridge. We even got to sit outside! It was a perfect day weather-wise in Boston yesterday. πŸ˜€

And then we tromped over to Davis Square for a delicious cocktail and lots of people watching (literally everyone was on a first date and it was uber amusing to observe their dating behavior):

Our cocktails at Saloon in Davis Square. πŸ™‚ Cheers!

All in all, a great start to the weekend! Now, as for my faves:

1. The Nalge.

How has this NEVER made it on my list of Friday Faves?! I have no idea. If you met me from the years 2000 – 2010, I was def toting a Nalgene bottle with me. And if you’re cool, you’d know to properly refer to a Nalgene bottle as a “Nalge” – the L method of abbrev-ing just about every word known to man. These are the OG of water bottles, and you must have one! Perfect for when lightweight matters (hiking, camping, lugging your junk to the beach in a tote bag, going to a party with your pre-made cocktail in your purse), these bad boys usually make up the lion’s share of my portable water bottle avalanche when I open that certain cabinet in my kitchen. Sad for me (and my normally large but now dwindling Nalge collection), I recently started toting these everywhere and abandoning them. So, if we are really good friends and you live within a 5 mile radius, you probably have one rolling around in the back of your car (Kad), forgotten on your kitchen counter (Eeyore) or underneath your couch (who knows- but there’s a 67% chance that it’s pink). Thus, I have to replenish and will be going to EMS tonight to get one. πŸ™‚

2. Cocomama Honey Quinoa Cereal

This pre-cooked, soy/dairy/gluten free and vegetarian (I’d say vegan but the honey! I always forget) quinoa cereal was a life saver this week! My sister introduced me to this when she snuck a pack into my lunch for me to eat on one of the Monday mornings I drove from her home in Southern Connecticut straight to work in Massachusetts (it’s a nice 2.5 hour commute against traffic). I was saving this packet of cereal for a “rainy day” (you know, one where I shoot myself in the foot and am too lazy to assemble my Overnight Oats that literally takes about 5 minutes the night before) and I was not disappointed. You heat this bad boy up for 20 seconds in the microwave and BAM – you have a delicious, filling and flavorful breakfast at your fingertips. It was so good that I bought the rest of the flavors to try. And interestingly enough, it introduced me toΒ kaΓ±iwa (another high-protein Peruvian food similar to quinoa), which I had never heard of and am chomping at the bit to incorporate into future recipes – stay tuned. πŸ™‚

3. Lightlife Tempeh Fakin’ Bacon

I have yet to try this (have any of you tried it?) but I am SO, SO, SOOOO excited about this!!! No offense to Morning Star Farms, but their fake bacon is diiiiiisgusting and I just can’t hang with it. I found this at Whole Foods this past week when I went to “get a few things” and spent $158.67 (including a probably $37 prepared foods salad from their salad bar – no regrets), and immediately threw three packages of this into my cart in a fit of optimism. The last delicious fake bacon I ate was when my co-worker Jan made an out-of-this-world Eggplant Bacon in his dehydrator, but I have neither the counter space or patience to get on his level with the faux bacon scene. I’m really hoping this is as good as my expectations because I cannot wait to make the most bangin’ vegan BLT (TLT?) this weekend. Yasssss Queeeeeeen.

4. This Jumpsuit

K so I love jumpsuits but literally own 0, so I’m dying to get this to wear and I’m so excited about it. I’m normally not that trendy but it’s less than $100, looks super cute and I love the bright blue color!!! DYINGGG.

Also, just think of the intense dance party you can have when your pants and shirt are ATTACHED to one another. Boooo-YAH!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

PS: Do any of you have jumpsuits??

Nasty Gal Jeslina Jumpsuit, $88

5. Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Facial Serum

I’d like to thank the Academy, and this face serum, for causing someone to improperly identify me as 22 years old this past weekend (in fairness to them, they may not have been sober). Thank you, Kate Somerville for plumping my fine lines, and totally making it worth paying the outrageous price tag – based solely on the fact that some rando thought I had just graduated from college. That made my life. Bravo!

(Seriously though, I’ve used this product for a few years now and I swear by it. Stay out of the sun, drink water and put retinol on your face at night – BOOM. You’ll have great skin.)

Soooooo…what are you guys up to this weekend??Β I’ll be heading up (waaaaaaay up!) to the White Mountains in New Hampshire for a full-day hike with my cousin and his super rad girlfriend tomorrow and then seeing my sister for her b-day!! Tell me what you’re up in the comments!

I hope that you guys all have a fabulous day and an even better weekend!!! Happy Friday, all! πŸ˜€

With warmth,

Friday Faves ;)

Well hello everyone! I feel like I’ve missed you all since I’ve been super busy this week. There’s a lot going on in the Booyah-sphere, so hang in there with me – things should return to normal mid-May. πŸ™‚ Happy Friday!! It’s finally here! This week flew by, and I’m so glad we’ve finally reached the best day of the week. Hooooray! Here is what I’ve been feeling this week:

Rent the Runway

I’m going to a formal event May 1st, and I am ready to bring the fashion heat. I’ve never tried RTR before, but my bestie B has and she loves it! I found my dress for my event here, and I’m pretty excited even though it might be a little risque (think side cutouts) but HELLO why do I do all those crunches and planks if I’m not going to wear a dress that a) shows off that bod and b) I want to dance in all night?! Also, I need to find an event to go to where it is appropriate to wear that super cute jumpsuit pictured above. I’m all over the jumpsuits, I think they are SUPER chic. Check it out here.

Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

I bought these bad boys on sale (a bag of 10!), and I have been stress-eating them all week (hence why I’m wearing skinny boyfriend jeans instead of skinny skinny jeans right now). They are vegan, organic, sustainably sourced and friggin’ DELICIOUS. Which is why I ate three of them for dessert while watching Sons of Anarchy on Netflix last night. Sorry not sorry.

Eco Vessel Insulated Water Bottle

I know that if you guys have read one of my Friday Faves, you would know my obsession with reusable water bottles. I have a billion – my all-time favorite is my purple S’well bottle which does not leave my side, ever. And since I clearly need another one to add to the collection (if a certain cabinet is opened in my kitchen, an avalanche of my reusable water bottles may or may not occur), I really want one of these. They are insulated like the S’well and can carry hot or cold liquids, and they have both a wide-mouth top for easy cleaning and a sippy spout for the gym! I basically NEED one of these!! If only they came in more fun colors…

This Boston-born band is sure to make for an excellent dance party later tonight when I hit up their show! They are pretty jamm-y, good vibe-y, and kinda hippie-ish, so that is right in my wheelhouse! I’ve never seen them before but have heard good things so I am pretty stoked. πŸ™‚

I’ll be dancing like this in approximately 10 – 12 hours:

giphy2You know it. πŸ˜‰

Women on 20s

YES! We do need a woman on the $20 (even though Andrew Jackson is kind of a BAMF/a ridiculous person, move on out, dude!). My vote goes to Elizabeth Cady Stanton because she’s an OG and I did a report on her in 5th grade. And, the women’s suffrage movement was born near where I was born (Upstate New York say whaaaat)! Feminism: it’s in the water. Read more about this here.

Bridal Bootcamp Arm Workout

Since I wrote about farting instead of my usual Work It Out Wednesday, I really felt like I deprived you guys of knowing what kind of craziness we got up to at the gym this week during our gal workout. We followed this Bridal Boot Camp Workout by PopSugar, and it was excellent. Also if you’re bored at work, Google stock images of “Bridal Boot Camp”. What the hell.

I hope you all have a great weekend this weekend, and Happy Friday!! I will be going to that Dopapod show and dancing my butt off tonight, I hope you guys are doing equally awesome things this weekend – what are you guys up to?? Tell me about it in the comments.

With warmth,

L’s Beauty Faves

Hi gorgies! Today I wanted to share some of my beauty faves/getting ready essentials. Just like there are people that are foodies and obsessed with all things food (guilty), there is also an equivalent for beauty products. Yes, I’ve been known to get my rocks off finding the perfect mascara that makes your lashes POP or the perf lip color shade for my skin tone. I’ve searched high and low for the best of the best in products since I was allowed to start wearing makeup (I won’t say how long ago that was, but long enough to know some sh*t). I am also really into making at home-beauty treatments (which I will save for another post) and boy oh boy did I have some beauty adventures/disasters (try washing a homemade mashed banana moisture mask out of long, curly hair). Along the way, I’ve learned some stuff and wanted to share the products I swear by (hand on Chanel).

1. Dior DiorShow Waterproof Mascara

This mascara is the queen of all mascaras. It really gives your lashes a fuller look without looking fake, Kardashian-esque or clumpy. It doesn’t flake off as the day goes on and decorate your under-eye area with black chunks, and it stays put. It’s lasted full-blown teary melt downs, getting thrown into a pool, and stand-up paddle boarding (to name a few). I swear by this mascara, and have bought it for years! It is the one beauty product I will not leave the house without – #redheadproblems include having red/blonde eyelashes that don’t really pop without assistance. The. Best. It really allows you to put your best lashes forward and get your flirt on. πŸ˜‰ And, (B will attest to this), I frequently send snapchats with the sole purpose of sharing the fact that I’m having a great mascara day (you may laugh at this, but my eye makeup game is on fleek).

2. Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Eyeliner

bobbi brown eyeliner

The second product I won’t leave home without is this eyeliner. When my sister saw my eyeliner routine (sometimes I go back for a second round if one side is darker than the other – hello, it’s got to be even!) she laughed and said, “You’re such a Paisan!” – um, I obviously need to make these Italian eyes pop like a boss. This eyeliner should be the DiorShow mascara’s Ride or Die b*tch, because it stays put nearly as long. There have been nights of me going out (not as frequent as they once were!) where I fall asleep without washing my face, don’t sprawl around all that much, and my eye makeup is still perfectly applied with limited smudging the next morning (if you don’t believe me, ask the Medford Housewives – they’ve seen it in action at 7:30 am Saturday morning).

3. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

laura mercier

I am pretty fair, and I’ve got a ton of freckles, and finding a tinted moisturizer light enough for my complexion is a challenge. Obv, walking around in life with your face a remarkably different color than your neck/chest is a “no” on the highest level (you would def be a Glamour “Don’t”). This tinted moisturizer is light and sheer, but still has enough pigment that it evens out your skin tone to a gorgie make-up-free-and-fabulous look. I appreciate the fact that it doesn’t irritate my super sensitive skin or cause breakouts (I mean, they usually just happen sometimes). It also has SPF 20 which is a plus (everyone should wear at least SPF 15 on their face/neck everyday – no exceptions!), and is hydrating to boot. Pretty much a winner all around.

4. Rosebud Perfume Co. Rosebud Salve

The stand-by classic. I always have a tin of this in my purse. It gives just the most subtle touch of rosy color and shine, and keeps your look natural and low maintenance (I love that we as women – prepare yourself for a broad generalization that may or may not apply to you – spend time and money to look like we just rolled out of bed and #wokeuplikethis – but really, it does take some effort and time to make yourself presentable on a daily basis/maybe only if you have a hot date and want to look nice. Idk. I hope you know what I saying here – it definitely takes a few key products to achieve the fresh-faced look I want to present to the world). This really is a great product; it conditions your lips and makes them look very kissable.

5. Alba Botanica Hawaiian Hand & Body Lotion in Replenishing Cocoa Butter

I was walking around the gym last week and someone looked up from their locker and exclaimed, “Someone smells like chocolate! Like chocolate brownies!” …It was me. πŸ™‚ I love this lotion, because not only does it smell amazing (cocoa butter-based lotion has been my Go-To since I’ve been shaving my legs), but it is thick, creamy, super hydrating and moisturizing for my sensitive, dry skin. It feels like a special treat every morning when I do the post-shower lotion application, and my skin is still smooth and moisturized when I’m putting on my comfy pants at the end of the day. It’s a must have. And, out of all of these products, it has 100% vegetarian ingredients and is cruelty-free (score!).

6. Chanel Chance

Ever since this perfume was introduced in 2003, I have owned a bottle. I am obsessed (I had a semi-meltdown when my roommate’s cat stealthily broke into my bedroom, climbed on my bookcase and up-ended my bottle all over the floor in college. But then I wasn’t that mad because my room smelled ever-so-slightly like Chance for the rest of the year). I am a Chanel fan regardless (Coco is a bamf, obv) and when this scent came out I ran, not walked, to Sephora and scooped one up. The scent is a lovely mix of freshness meets flowery notes upon first spritz, and then mellows to a sensual spicy composition. The best part is that there are now two additional Chance spin-offs, both of which are fantastic and I also own. I rotate between them based on my mood, what I’m feeling for the day and the season. I own other perfumes too, but this is the one I keep coming back to. It’s like the Mr. Big of perfumes (So is it the best? Abso-f***ing-lutely).

I hope that you guys enjoyed reading about my hands-down faves. Hope you all have a beautiful Thursday! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

With warmth,

Friday Faves!

boston snow

A pic my friend took in Charlestown after one of the storms that I totally stole off his Facebook to illustrate the madness. Thanks, C! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›

Happy Friday all! It’s been an interesting week. I feel like I can comfortably speak for most New Englanders that we are completely and utterly sick of the snow (especially the associated travel issues – the T is broken, side streets are still a mess, and there are zero parking spots anywhere in Boston Metro) and so B & B will be taking applications for its first annual Boston Snow Relocation Project in order to spread the wealth of snow across the country to those who want a piece of this winter wonderland. πŸ˜‰ I’m basically just still mad that my race was cancelled (with no refunds – lame). So, I’m focusing on the positives (as one must do in these circumstances): embrace the snow, and have fun because spring will come!

T map

I LOL’ed when I saw this sad/highly accurate MBTA map on Twitter, made by @SaraMorrison. Hilarious, yet dead on. Womp.

Here is what I’ve been feeling this week:

1. Justin’s Cookie Dough Almond Butter.

cookie butterI WANT THIS. NOW. Apparently, the King of the Morons John Mayer (sorry not sorry, I think he’s kind of a D) tweeted at Justin’s requesting a Cookie Dough Almond Butter – a request which was fulfilled by the Almond Butter Gods at Justin’s. The Cookie Dough Almond Butter is chocolate almond butter with chocolate chips and real chunks of cookie dough (and it’s vegan!). I don’t know why they wasted this pleasure on him, but if they don’t make this available nationwide, I will personally stand outside and picket Justin’s headquarters. Also, if you are a huge Justin’s fan like moi, you’d know that the founder, Justin Gold, always includes a message on each jar. Here it is for the jar above:

I know this guy named John. You see, John’s awesome because he doesn’t just sit around waiting on the world to change, he makes things happen with the power of his thumbs, a little keyboard and this thing called Twitter. If it weren’t for my buddy, we would still be living in a sad, sad world without Cookie Dough Almond Butter. Talk about using your powers for good. If only everything I tweeted came true . . . John, enjoy this creation. Finely crafted just for you. β€”Justin

Dude, seriously – the world needs this, Justin. Make it happen. PLEASE!!!!

2. Nike Legendary Lava Tight

My amazing sister got me some Nike Legend training tights for Christmas, and I’m obsessed. They are (I can’t believe I’m about to say this) better than Lulu! The fabric is thick and opaque (no free shows!) but wicks sweat really well, and the pattern she got me is really cute. I’ve been wearing my pair at least once a week – they are perfect for the days, like today, that the temperature is only 8Β°F / – 13Β°C when I wake up and head to the gym at 5 am – so I’m not freezing my ass off in crops, but the full length tights still wick sweat like a boss and I don’t get overheated (and that’s coming from a furnace – I run so hot when I workout). I am OBSESSED with that Lava pattern in the pair above – it’s SO FUN and SPRING-Y! I’m really feeling the fun pants recently, even though I really only have two pairs in a sea of solid dark neutrals. Also, the Lifting Girls at the gym always wear fun pants and they look so friggin’ cute. I want some.

fashion week

Victoria Justice at Mara Hoffman F/W 15 show

New York Fashion Week just came to a close yesterday, but I’ve spent every free minute in the past week reading recaps, using WhoWhatWear as my Fashion Bible. And, I want that outfit (above). Oh. Em. Gee. Obsessedddd!! One of my favorite parts of NYFW is perusing the Street Snaps by The Styleograph. I get such sweet outfit ideas by scoping out how other people put pieces together in a creative way. Loving it…

4. This article by Hungry Runner Girl: Ten Changes To Improve Your Running Form

hungry runner girl

I feel like my form could use some work (I mean, it can’t hurt) and maybe I’ll be faster (yeah, yeah – I know you only get faster by running sprint intervals/run hills but good form helps too, right?). On some of my longer runs, I have to consciously think to stand up straight, keep my shoulders back, and not bounce or slam my feet on the pavement for the first mile or so until I get into my groove. I found these tips to be really helpful, and they are definitely worth checking out. πŸ™‚
5. This little motivational quote I stumbled across.
Even though I’m pissed my race was cancelled and I don’t get to compete, I am trying my best to not get too bummed out. I’ve worked really hard, and there will be another race that I can do. Regardless of racing/not racing, I’ve come so far in my training and I’ve been kicking ass. Thus, I’m basically unstoppable (at least that’s what I’m telling myself to keep my momentum going). Any fun half marathon race suggestions are welcome. πŸ™‚
6. Stretching.

I’m still SO SORE. Wah.
I hope that you guys all are having a great Friday today! Later this evening, I’ll be driving to CT for the weekend to see my favorite person in the universe: my 11-month old nephew, E! I am so excited to see that little nugget and give him Auntie hugs and kisses! So pumped (if you see the Marshmallow Mobile on I-84 give me a honk on Waze). Also, L’s Rock Climbing Adventure Part Deux will be occurring on Sunday afternoon – pretty stoked on that, too! What are you guys up to this weekend?? Tell me all the deets in the comments. ❀
With warmth,
PS: The Boston Yeti is a vegan. Just sayin’. And the fact that he retweeted my tweet made my day this week! πŸ˜‰

L On-the-Go! Packing Essentials, Part One.

photo 1

What’s in my (Lululemon) bag: laptop, sunnies, scarf, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, Advil, inhaler, gum, headphones, snacks, wallet, gum, chapstick, business cards, book, iPad mini and liquids

I hate packing. I really do. There’s no rational reason behind it because in the grand scheme of things, it’s really not a big deal. I’m heading to Colorado for work/fun and here I’ll share my packing essentials. Due to all the luggage fees, I tend to stuff all the things I need into two carry-on bags. My “purse” or “under the seat” item contains all my immediate essentials for the plane ride. Here’s what I bring!

My “Under the Seat” Carry-on Contains:

  • Laptop/wireless mouse
  • Headphones
  • Sunnies (for the “please don’t talk to me” nap time)
  • Advil (in case of too many bubbles)
  • Wet ones sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer – thanks to my sister, I now carry these in my bag everywhere! I immediately wipe down the surfaces that I touch on the plane (tray table, arm rests, etc) so I will not get sick! Thanks J for turning me into a germ-a-phobe, too.
  • Vinyasa scarf (the best purchase from Lulu ever! I use it as a scarf, obv, but you can unsnap it and use it as a blanket, towel, shawl, etc – the options are endless and it’s come in handy many times over)
  • Gum (for a mouth refresh)
  • Snacks (a must! As a veg, I am always afraid of my protein options so I bring lots of granola/energy bars that are high in the prots: Builder’s bar, bare naked granola bar, Kind bar)
  • Book (this one is about cadaver research so it’s sure to be a deterrent to any chatty seat mates)
  • iPad mini (for the boredom)
  • Liquids, wallet, business cards (self-explanatory)
  • Water bottle! (Not pictured, but I literally bring a refillable water bottle EVERYWHERE)

This airport wifi is a little wonky, so stay tuned for part deux: the roller bag carry-on. πŸ˜‰
