Friday Faves!

Yes! We finally made it to Friday! *High kicks* These Friday Faves posts are some of my favorite to write (and read) because I feel like it really gives a nice little behind the scenes peek. Right now, I’m en route to Florida! Stoked beyond all belief. I cannot wait to stick my feet in the sand, wooohooo! I’ve been doing lots of nighttime running recently in order to train for my half, and you can tell that running is on my brain in a big way. Here’s what I’ve been feeling this week:

1. LED High Visibility Flashing Safety Armband

Over Christmas, my brother-in-law totally called me out on my non-visible night running gear. He suggested I get one of these bad boys, so I won’t get hit by a car while I’m zooming along on the dark streets of Boston. I got this one on Amazon (it’s $10.99 and available for Prime, too!), and it comes in a rainbow of colors, but apparently the blue is the most visible (I’m rocking it in the above photo!). It’s lightweight, has three settings (quick flashing, slow flashing and constant on) and I barely noticed I was wearing it, except when the flash was going along with the beat of my music. πŸ™‚ Simple, easy and makes your night runs much safer!

2. Lululemon Speed Shorts

It might only be 20 degrees in Boston right now, but my trip to Florida has me dreaming of sunshine. You guys all know that I’m addicted to Lulu (or a “looligan” as my sister calls me) and I can’t resist cute and functional running gear. These shorts were one of the first pieces of Lulu run gear that I bought back in the day, and they sucked me into the void. These shorts come in tons of cute colors, are stretchy, breathable/lightweight, have lots of pockets, and are the first ones I get out of my drawer for warmer runs. Obsessed. It’s a problem. I recently visited the Newbury Street Lululemon in Boston (my fave one!), where the girls who work there and I are on a first name basis. They pointed out these black embossed animal print Speeds and I knew I must have them (mostly because I’m an animal, but maybe also because I’m half Italian and it’s in my genes to adore a little animal print). I can’t wait to run in them on the beach!

3. Vega Sport Protein Powder in Chocolate

vega

I could not get through Veganuary without a delicious chocolate protein powder. I won’t reiterate how much I love smoothies (since I already have earlier this week in my Green Citrus Smoothie post) but I would be lost without a vegan protein powder that doesn’t taste like sh*t. I’ve been the driver of the Vegan Protein Powder Struggle Bus in the past, but Vega has assuaged my fears and made me see the light – amazing tasting vegan protein powder is possible! This one has a mild chocolate (not fake!) flavor, and has 130 calories and 25 grams of protein per scoop (which is comparable to the chocolate whey protein that is my vegetarian go-to). Perfection.

4. New Balance Glow 1400 Racing Sneakers

These suckers are the bomb dot com. I have pretty narrow feet, so New Balance sneaks usually fit me well anyway, but I prob would have wanted these even if they weren’t my favorite brand. They are super lightweight, and feel like you’re wearing nothing on your feet. They are made of the usual mesh/no-sew that is typical in racing sneakers. The best part? They frigging GLOW IN THE DARK!!! Say whaaaaat! Not only are they bright (/super cute) and reflective, but they actually glow in low light conditions and make you more visible. Basically they look like there is a rave happening on your feet (woot, woot!). Thankfully, Santa brought me a pair so I can zoom around town day or night and be even MORE visible (bc obv my red hair isn’t enough). πŸ˜‰

5. “Time of Our Lives” – Pitbull and Ne-Yo

ne-yo

I don’t care what any of you say, I looooooooooooove me some Pitbull. This song is on repeat on my iPod right now, it’s so catchy and it got me to run outside when it was 19Β°F (-7Β°C) and snowing this week. It’s just a fun song. Give it a listen. I highly recommend including it in your playlist if you’re having a serious dance party a la L this weekend. Wooooooweeee! πŸ˜›

Β I can’t wait to share my run updates with all of you from Florida next week! πŸ˜€ I’m sending all of the warmth and sunshine your way today. Happy Friday, and I hope you all have great weekends! πŸ˜€

xo,

    • I’m glad you like my picks Catherine! The arm band is so useful, I’m actually kind of kicking myself for not getting one sooner. The shorts are awesome – I love workout gear that has a little spunk to it. If you’re getting up early to workout, you might as well wear something that is a fun, cute and you feel great in! And, last but not least, the protein powder really is the best vegan protein powder I’ve tasted. I’ve gotten other brands in the past and was kinda bummed when I tasted my smoothies made with them (chalky and fake tasting – bleh!). It was recommended to me by a coworker and he definitely had the right idea! πŸ™‚ Happy Weekend!!

    • Thanks Jen! I’m glad I’m not the only one – my friends make fun of me but I love his music because it’s so catchy and fun! I definitely will have a great time – I went to happy hour last night with my parents (who I’m visiting down here). They had 2 for 1 drink specials and a live band. And everyone got up and danced! I think my parent’s generation is kicking butt on the dancing portion of life, and I think the 2 for 1 drink specials helped πŸ˜‰ So fun!! Hope you and your family is having a great weekend.

    • Yeah! I feel like I’ve really seen the light when it comes to the Vega, it is actually really delicious! Omg, don’t start buying stuff from Lulu – you’ll get sucked in! Hahaha! Seriously though, they have some really great pieces there, and I wish I could afford the entire store sometimes! Some of my favorite running stuff is from there. And, as soon as I got off the plane yesterday I traded my leggings for some shorts, even though it was low 70s and kinda breezy! It feels great to free the stems when they’ve been in pants for a few months now. πŸ™‚ Hope you have a great weekend!!

  1. I have some Pitbull on my playlist, too. Namely “Timber,” which I have to listen to 11 times if I listen to it once. Good luck with veganuary!

    • Loving that! I have Timber too – his songs are just so catchy and usually have good beats to run to. Thanks! So far so good – I eat mostly vegan anyway, but this is a fun challenge to be even more conscious of what I’m eating, and it forces me to be creative and thoughtful about what I’m eating as well. Hope you have a great weekend, A! πŸ™‚
